About the Blog

The title of this blog is (hopefully obviously) a play on words. It reflects my belief that well-developed moral thought is a necessary condition for the Good Life. Not in some elitist sense — of course I do not think that people who do not take college courses in philosophy and ethics are thereby rendered incapable of leading good lives. On the contrary, it seems to me that working through moral issues — what is valuable, what you should do, how you should live — is actually a feature of nearly all humans’ routine deliberations and personal narratives. But some us feel the need to do ethics explicitly (even professionally), and this is a space for that. I hope to shed some light on a little corner of ethics for my own benefit, and maybe for yours, too.

I have tried blogging before, and failed miserably. I remain attracted to the idea of doing it, but have historically lacked the time, motivation, interest and whatever other qualities make someone a successful blogger. So, here I am, giving it another shot. In order to reduce my chances of failing again, I am writing the first post… On the Value of Blogging
